Typically, the operation will not take more than one hour and will be performed under local or partial anaesthetic.

For the purpose of chin augmentation, the chin bone is exposed by a small, inconspicuous incision below the chin or by an “invisible” incision from inside the mouth below the tongue. The silicon implant is inserted and fixed.

When chin augmentation is carried out in combination with a nose correction for optimising a person's profile, this is referred to as “profiloplasty”.
