Some fundamental facts on abdominoplasty/tummy tuck

There are several reasons for abdominoplasty:

  • After significant weight loss the abdominal skin becomes flabby and is no longer able to restore its firmness.

  • As a result of one or two pregnancies the abdominal skin or abdominal muscles have become overstretched.

  • Excess skin forms abdominal skin folds which can cause chronic inflammation due to permanent friction and perspiration.

Preparation

Prior to surgery the surgeon will explore together with you what you want to achieve and how this can be achieved with the medical resources and procedures available.

This surgery is only performed on an in-patient basis and under general anaesthetic. Normally patients can leave the hospital after two days.
